Mission Statement
At Hill Country European, we’re all about precision, passion, and a bit of personality. We don’t just repair cars—we nurture long-term relationships with drivers who love their German vehicles as much as we do. Our highly-trained, slightly quirky team is here to educate and empower you, making car care less of a mystery and more of a journey. We’re committed to sustainable growth, green practices, and staying deeply connected to our Austin community because taking care of cars goes hand-in-hand with taking care of people.
Brent, our fearless leader and a proud Texan, started his journey in the German car world back in 1996—sweeping floors, dismantling junkers, and slowly but surely mastering the art of repair. From installing A/C in vintage BMWs to tackling today’s most complex diagnostics, Brent has seen it all and fixed even more. With decades of experience under his tool belt, he’s built a team of technicians who truly care about getting you back on the road with confidence. At Hill Country European, you’ll find more than mechanics—you’ll find a caring crew that explains every option and works with you every step of the way.
Brent Christensen
Brent “BC” Christensen spent much of his childhood in Houston helping his brother fix automobiles. Years of shade tree wrenching led to a long career in Austin, Texas, dealing with all aspects of BMW and Mini Cooper repair and modification. Brent is also an ASE Master and L1-certified Technician. He holds numerous credentials in the German car field. Brent also holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin and is a certified ESL (English as a second language) Early Childhood through Fourth Grade Teacher. Brent’s career in the automotive field began with sweeping floors but quickly progressed through general repair to months-long, custom modification and racecar preparation projects. He prides himself on attention to detail and precision and values continuing education in the complex field of luxury car repair. Brent has spent more than the last decade and a half not only repairing German vehicles in Austin, but also helping explain to customers what they’re spending their hard-earned money on.
Lazaro "Laz" Monroy
Laz was born and raised in Cuba surrounded by vintage machines. With a natural curiosity for understanding everything that contained a mechanism, he grew up working with his hands and learning to fix things.
The shop's first apprentice (now an ASE Certified Technician) came to Austin in 2008 and quickly made it his home. Here he attended and graduated from Austin Community College's automotive technology program before expanding into the world of German engineering. Eager to learn from some of the best technicians in Austin, Laz has grown to love and appreciate these luxury machines and the attention to detail that is required to keep them operating at peak performance. Continuing education classes and ASE certifications are part of his ongoing education and Laz has not hesitated to take advantage of every opportunity to grow. Being a part of the Hill Country European team since 2016 has been just one step in the process of learning to provide the best service possible.
Justin Mooneyham
Texas born and raised, Justin grew up in North Texas restoring his 1973 Triumph with his dad. Digesting anything and everything auto-related, he eventually switched tracks from engineering school to trade school so that he could focus on cars. His education in the automotive field started with trade school and quickly moved into the dealership world. Four years with Mercedes-Benz repairing and maintaining vehicles shifted to 2 years at an Audi dealership. Wanting to take a well-earned break from cars, Justin went into regional sales, driving all over Texas. This likely forged his love of Volkswagen GTI’s; he drove his more than 50,000 miles a year!
Well folks, luckily for Hill Country European Autoworks, Justin navigated his automotive expertise and communication skills to our workshop in 2020. He’s an integral part of the communication between technician and driver; that’s us and you. He’s not just the friendly face you’ll encounter at the front desk, but he’s also an experienced technician.
Sacramento "Sac" Cabello
Sac joined Hill Country European’s workshop team in July 2021 after fortuitously dropping off a resume during a reconnaissance trip to Austin to scout a house to buy with his wife and young daughter. Fortunately for us (and you) he chose the south side of Austin! The ex-Californian has decades of experience diagnosing and repairing all makes and models. At the shop he moved from, Sac was the lead technician and go-to guy for all European car diagnostics. His bona fides include full ASE Automobile and Light Truck as well as the more advanced L1 certifications. He is a natural fit in the workshop due to his attention to detail and thoughtful, strong work-ethic.
Sac says he misses his bicycle commute to work in California, gathering with his family there, and his church. So far, he’s been impressed with the Hill Country’s larger-than-life cloud formations and thunderstorms as well as our abundance of greenery. His dream car is a Porsche GT3. Search that on the internet and you’ll immediately see why. Since moving to the area, they’ve added to their family with a Maltipoo puppy named Coco. His seven-year-old had chosen that name years ago!
Ben Adams
Having grown up in a shop environment from very early on in life, Ben started his career in the trade sweeping the floors at about 13 years old in his dad's shop. Ben’s love for things mechanical stemmed from his love for motorcycles, specifically Harley Davidson. Ben worked in his dad's shop professionally from his late teenage years and on, soaking up knowledge and experience on everything from large diesel trucks to classic hot rods. Ben found us in May 2022 after his father closed his tool box for good. Just like at his previous shop, his mission is to give our clients’ cars the amount respect and quality service that they deserve.
He's a native Texan. He's a hard worker. He's just a dang nice guy. And now he's a Hill Country European Autoworks professional.
Nathan Weeden
A native Texan, Nathan was born and raised in Dripping Springs just west of Hill Country European Autoworks. His passion for cars was piqued when his dad would take him to Auto Shows starting at 5 years old. It was then that he was introduced to Herbie The Love Bug and the 1963 Volkswagen Beetle became his dream car. When he’s not maintaining your fine German automobile, Nathan enjoys going to live music, rocking out on his electric guitar, fishing, and swimming. Keep your eyes peeled, one day you might see him around town performing his own music.
Tanee Wharton
Tanee comes to us from the small West Texas town with a famous mascot. That town is Eastland and its world-famous reptile is Old Rip, the Texas horned toad. Check out that remarkable story here. She now calls the Texas Hill Country home and likes the small-town feel of Wimberley. She’s got three amazing kids (Teagan who’s attending Texas State, Madden in high school, and Palin in middle school) and, when she’s not absolutely killing it in the front office, she’s watching them play sports or hanging out at The Sandbar at Lake LBJ. An educator by profession, Tanee taught school for 16 years. Spending all those years working with children has really helped prepare her for a workshop and office full of dudes. Everyone at Hill Country European Autoworks has a dream car and Tanee’s is a blue BMW M2 Competition with a standard transmission, duh. Luckily, she gets to drive one here occasionally. We here in the workshop are extremely lucky to have her helping us run a smooth and efficient operation. Working with an ex-teacher is like having your own personal MacGyver. Come by and say hi and she’ll get you set up with an appointment, craft you an honest estimate, and answer any questions you have.
